I. Speciality of titanium

  The primary attributes that make titanium an attractive material include an excellent strength-to-weight ratio, providing weight savings attractive to the aerospace and petrochemical industries; corrosion resistance, particularly appealing to the aerospace, chemical, petrochemical and architectural industries; and biological compatibility, of interest to the medical industry. The chemical industry is the largest user of titanium due to its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in the presence of oxidizing acids. The aerospace industry is the next largest user, primarily due to its elevated (and cryogenic) temperature capabilities and weight savings due to its high strength and low density; with increased use of polymeric graphite fiber reinforced composites on aircraft, the low coefficient of thermal expansion is also an important factor. III. Competitive advantages of titaniun fasteners

  Titanium with formability in accordance with JIS class1 can be formed using almost the same tools, jigs, or machines as those for low-carbon steel and stainless steel. It also has excellent deep drawability.

It can be seam-welded or spot-welded in the similar method as stainless steel in the atmosphere. For general welding (mainly by TIG welding), argon for its shield gas and other appropriate welding management are required. There is no concern about corrosion of welded portions nor stress corrosion cracking.
